Footprints: The Dartmouth Volksmarch Club Newsletter
Footprints HistoryFootprints has been the name of the DVC newsletter since 1993. Lionel Conrod coined the name, and it is very appropriate. Every time we walk a trail we leave footprints. The pages of the newsletter also leave our archival and historical footprints – our story.
Lionel has been the newsletter editor for the past 30 years. The first footprints newsletter issued in March 1993 (Vol 1 No 1) was a simple typed document in black and white. It was photocopied and distributed to the members before the days of Internet and email. Gradually over the years it has become more sophisticated. In recent years Lionel has used Microsoft Publisher ® to compile and compose each newsletter, integrating photographs neatly with the printed word. Articles fit exactly on the pages and statistics fit neatly alongside notices and awards details etc. - a labour of love and no one does it better than Lionel. Footprints is now an archival record of club developments and events since the beginning. Anyone wishing to see who was on the executive, or who got an award 30 years ago can find that in an issue of footprints for that year! We have posted the first issue of Footprints (Vol 1 No1) and a few recent editions from 2022 and 2023 and the most current edition here. If any members would like a copy of a Footprints newsletter from earlier years, Lionel Conrad or Mel Earley may be able to get you an electronic copy. No harm in asking. |
