Our Club The Dartmouth Walking & Hiking Club founded in 1983 is a member of the Canadian Volkssport Federation. Every week throughout the year we get together for a guided recreational walk on one of the many beautiful trails, along the coast and rivers, on heritage trails on forest nature trails and on groomed rails to trails. We walk/hike 50 to 60 different trails every year.
Our walks are optionally 10 km or 6 km in length. All walks are open to the public and begin at a set time and location as indicated in our schedule of Guided Walks on the Walks/Trails page. Registration takes place 15 minutes before the start time and the walks take place in all weather conditions. Our walks are friendly and non-competitive and upon completion everyone feels like a winner. The Dartmouth Walking Club is active on Facebook and Meetup |
Volkssport TraditionOur club is a member of The Canadian Volkssport Federation (CVF) and the International Volkssports Verband (IVV) The Volkssports organization began in the 1960s in Bavaria. The CVF was formed in 1986 and The Dartmouth Volksmarch Club (our official and registered name) became the first member - membership number 001!
In the United States the American Volkssport Association (AVA) has a nationwide, network of over 200 active clubs presenting more than 2,500 volkssporting events each year. There are over 20 Volksmarch clubs in Canada. Clubs around the world hold international events for members and guests. Some Clubs organize “Away Walking Trips” and “walking holidays “ in other provinces and abroad. In many clubs, "Volkssport" events also include cycling swimming and skiing |
