Permanent Trails - A Friendly Reception for Travellers

In addition to guided walks Clubs in Canada and around the world offer Self guided permanent walks  for members and visitors. We have 12 permanent walks in Nova Scotia - three in the Halifax-Dartmouth area. Walkers start at a designated location and pick up written directions including a trail map and may complete the walk anytime. These walks introduce the visitor to the area including scenic features and historic sites.

Volksmarch Clubs When You Travel

Many members contact the local club when they travel and participate in guided walks as well as enjoying the permanent walks in that city or country. It’s a chance to meet up with other friendly Volkssporters and enjoy what  their City/Country has to offer. Contact  the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV)  before you travel - check out the European Clubs and permanent trails. Through walking you will find fun, health and sociability - just come and join in.

Some of our Favourite Trails and Walks near Halifax/Dartmouth

We are fortunate to have so many beautiful and interesting trails within the city limits and many more within 35  kilometers of the Metro area. We also hold special walks and hikes such as the Harvest Moon Walk on the Saltmarsh Trail in the Moonlight at the first full moon of the fall season (usually in the last week of September). We also hold the Mahone Bay Scarecrow Walk at the end of September, and the Christmas lights Walk in Halifax or Dartmouth at Christmas time. Below are some pictures of some of the over 50 different trails we walk throughout the year.
